Broughty Ferry dook: Australian family find it a bit cold down under
ByAndrew Liddle
The Broughty Ferry Dook is a shock to anyone’s system, but spare a thought for the family who swapped the height of the Australian summer for a cold dip in the Tay.
Jim Dennerley and his wife Caroline travelled all the way from Brisbane to take part in the dip with their two sons Tommy and Matthew.
The 53-year-old said: “My wife is originally from Douglas, so it was great to be able to come on holiday here and take part in the dook.
“It was 42 degrees when we left Brisbane, so there’s a bit of a difference. It has been excellent though.”
Dundee’s Lord Provost Bob Duncan was at the helm of the 201 swimmers who ran into the Tay, watched by hundreds of spectators.
Despite the wind and rain, many of those taking part donned fancy dress to take part in the swim, which was preceded by a swim relay by members of the “Ye Amphibious Ancients Bathing Association”, who organised the event.
