Students involved in a hugely successful vintage tearoom in Camperdown House are preparing to serve up more treats at Dundee and Angus College.

The college’s training kitchen is reopening on Monday, with some of the staff and students from Camperdown House donning their aprons again.

Hospitality, retail and tourism students will show off the skills they have learned at the KC Caf Bar in the Kingsway Campus.

Open to members of the public, the caf will offer a limited service of coffees, teas, soup and sandwiches but, as the students progress through their courses, the caf menu will become more elaborate.

In due course, the caf will build up to a full service, including cooked breakfasts and lunches.

Both staff and students are expecting to be busy in the coming months, especially after the success of the vintage tearoom project that ran in Camperdown House during the summer holiday.

In the six-week project, 12 students and eight staff took more than 3,200 bookings for afternoon teas.

Louisa Kingham, head of hospitality, retail and tourism, said: “Our staff and students have shown they could match the highest of professional standards and will continue to do so.”

SVQ II professional cookery students will be involved along with their colleagues on NC hospitality introduction to hospitality courses.

The caf bar will be open from 9am to 3pm on weekdays.

Meanwhile, KC Training Restaurant will roll out lunches from the middle of September and offer dinner from Monday October 19.
