Camperdown Park Travellers show no sign of moving on
ByThe Courier Reporter
Dozens of Travellers who settled at Camperdown Park have ignored a notice ordering them to move on.
Council officers issued a legal notice to the group comprising nearly 40 caravans and other vehicles on Monday, instructing them to leave the area within 48 hours.
But there has been no movement.
It is anticipated the group will now receive a notice, giving them seven days to move on.
Locals have hit out at the Travellers’ arrival in the park, which came just hours after they had left playing fields at Riverside Drive.
Charles Denny, 54, from Stobswell, who was visiting Camperdown, said: “The council say they have the power to seize vehicles for driving on the grass, and that’s exactly what the Travellers are doing, so why don’t the council use that power against them?
“There should be areas that the Travellers can use.”
Another added: “I was at Camperdown yesterday and counted 31 caravans. Then, as we were sitting there, another four or five came and pitched up.
“I don’t understand why they don’t just go and buy a field somewhere and live there; then they won’t be asked to move on.”
