Dundee KFC branch fined £3,200 for hygiene breaches

A Dundee branch of KFC has been fined over £3,000 for a series of hygiene failures after food safety inspectors found live beetles.
Dundee Sheriff Court today heard how a customer reporting the dirty conditions at the city centre outlet led to an inspection by food standards inspectors.
The company admitted that on September 12 it failed to meet food standards regulations in that the high street store had live beetles and larvae on the floor under the dessert preparation area. Other floors in the kitchen and counter areas were covered in grease and food debris and a water pipe was leaking into a dirty basin at the hand wash area.
Scotco Eastern Ltd, based in Aberdeen, hold the franchise for all of the KFC outlets in Scotland, and admitted the failures.
It said all of the issues related to floor surfaces and not food preparation surfaces.
It added that a new manager and team leaders are in place, and the branch is in line for a complete refurbishment.
Sheriff George Way fined the company £3,200 which it must pay within 28 days.
