Dundee is in line for two royal visits over the next month.

Prince Charles will visit the city next Saturday, accompanied by his wife Camilla, with the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay attending the national Battle of Loos commemorative service.

Then the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate, will make an official visit to Dundee in late October as part of their autumn tour.

Details of that visit are still under wraps but a royal spokesman said it would be one of the “highlights” of the couple’s programme.

Dundee has been honoured with the responsibility of hosting national commemorations as Britain marks 100 years since the Battle of Loos.

Hundreds of the city’s young men sacrificed their lives in the fields of northern France in one of the bloodiest conflicts of the First World War.

Charles who is Royal Colonel of the 3rd Battalion (The Black Watch) and 7th Battalion (the 51st Highland Battalion), The Royal Regiment of Scotland and Camilla will be among the 1,000 guests at a service in Dundee City Square.

They will also attend a reception for armed services personnel and veterans and meet with local school children to see the educational project they’ve undertaken on the battle.

The younger royals will visit the city a few weeks later, though the exact date and itinerary have yet to be revealed.

A royal spokesman did confirm that: “The duke and duchess will be making an official visit to Dundee in late October. The programme for their autumn tour has yet to be finalised, but the visit will be one of the highlights.”

It won’t be the first time the couple have visited Tayside together as the arrival of William and Kate in 2014 brought thousands on to the streets of Perthshire.

The Earl and Countess of Strathearn made their first visit to the area in May of last year.
