Dundee University Culture Day examines heroes and villains
ByThe Courier Reporter
Writers, musicians, biologists and historians were exploring good and evil as part of Dundee University’s 10th Culture Day.
A special programme, Heroes and Villains, took place at the Baxter Conference Room.
Admiral Duncan, William Topaz McGonagall, Douglas Haig, Carl Linnaeus, David Hume and Shakespeare’s tragic figures were among those whose reputations were re-evaluated.
Matthew Jarron, event coordinator, said: “People may have a very fixed idea of who is and who isn’t a hero or villain.
“What our forum members will be doing is showing how the truth is often much more complex.”
