A Royal Navy Sea King rescue helicopter was used to take the touirst to hospital.

A German tourist helicoptered out of Glen Doll on Wednesday June 11 has died.

Sources close to the incident confirmed the death on Monday afternoon.

The unnamed German tourist was hiking in the Angus beauty spot on Wednesday afternoon when he collapsed, hitting his head as he did so.

The man was attended to by members of the public until the helicopter arrived, approximately 50 minutes after being called.

A Royal Navy helicopter from Rescue 177 from HMS Gannett at Prestwick was called out to collect the casualty from the base of Dreish, adjacent to the Kilbo path.

A military helicopter was required because the civilian Air Ambulance is not equipped with a winch, and there was no space to land in the treacherous terrain around the southern Cairngorms.

He was then flown directly to Dundee Ninewells hospital.

The red and grey helicopter startled Dundee residents when it flew low and fast over city rooftops on Wednesday afternoon.

Despite the efforts of the emergency services and members of the public, the injuries proved too severe and the man is now confirmed to have died.

The man was with his wife when he collapsed, and she was later taken to Ninewells hospital by police from the local station at Kirrimuir.
