‘I’m sure God listens to what I listen to’ Dundee’s dancing plumber overwhelmed by internet fame

A dancing Dundee plumber who was caught on camera by a colleague says he is overwhelmed after becoming an internet sensation.

Mark Topen’s moves were captured by fellow plumber Brian Ogilvie as he danced to Chicane’s Saltwater.

The 52-year-old’s dancing was picked up by the LadBible Facebook site and has gathered thousands of comments, shares and likes as well as 10 million views.

He said: “I was intitally embarrassed my mate filmed it, and he uploaded it just to have a laugh at me, but it’s backfired.

“I was just mucking about, I’m not the greatest dancer. I like that it’s entertaining, it’s a bit of a giggle.

“That’s what music is about, you’re never too old.

“I’m sure god listens to what I listen to. It’s just beautiful it lifts my soul.”

Mark, whose dance has even been on Australian morning news, added: “Seemingly it’s gone global and I’m a bit overwhelmed.

“I’m one of the old school pioneers and when I’m out in the town….I can’t help it I just start moving.

“I spend most of my day under the floor or in an attic but at the weekend the bird gets out of the cage and I have a good time.”

Mark has been receiving texts and calls around the clock to congratulate him on his newfound stardom.

He said: “My kids are really chuffed. They love saying: ‘My dad is thedancing man!’”

Brian described the moment he captured on film.

He said: “I could hear the music getting cranked up, every few minutes another few notches.I could hear theshuffling upstairs and I thought: ‘This is too good to miss’.”

For Mark, dancing is not just a skive off when he should be mending pipes, it is a passion.

He said: “I don’t have a TV, I just listen to music.Your job is hard, your life is hard enough, music is my escape.

“I love dancing, I’ll go into any pub in Dundee of a Friday night and startdancing. I think everybody should enjoy themselves.”
