‘It hit us like a bus’ creditors react to Muirfield Contracts figures

Documents released by Companies House show the firm had debts totalling at least £6.9 million.
Documents released by Companies House show the firm had debts totalling at least £6.9 million.

The collapse of Muirfield left several companies across Tayside and Fife in financial difficulty.

Among them was Northern Access Floors, a leading specialist in new and existing raised access flooring works, which is owed tens of thousands of pounds.

A spokesman said: “It’s been quite hard to swallow, it’s hit us like a bus really.

“There isn’t much you can say and we are not confident about getting anything back from what we’re owed.”

Briggs Amasco, an industrial and commercial roofing company, is owed £44,000.

A spokesperson for the firm said their insurance had covered the blow.

They added: “It is of course disappointing but our first thoughts are with the people who have lost their jobs because of this.

“We have insurance, so we didn’t lose that money, but of course this is reflected in next year’s premium so it’s very unfortunate.”

Deeside Timber Frame, who have bases in Stonehaven and Stirling, may be owed nearly £200,000.

The company did not wish to comment on the release of the figures.

McGill Electrical, who could be owed more than £250,000, declined to comment before the creditors meeting on Thursday.
