The Little Sisters of the Poor have announced they will be leaving Dundee next year because of a lack of new nuns joining the order. The group have been in Dundee since 1863 and last year celebrated 150 years of service to the elderly in the city. The Sisters run the Wellburn Care Home and talks are under way in the hope of securing a new operator to keep it open. There are only about eight nuns remaining in Dundee, of which only two are under 70 years of age. The Little Sisters of the Poor are a worldwide organisation who help the elderly in homes across the globe. They have seen worldwide membership drop from 4,000 to 2,000 in the last 10 years.
