A motorist has spoken of his shock after trying to avoid a car “bouncing” down the road on its roof towards him.

Tuesday evening’s crash onMonifieth Road in Broughty Ferry left debris strewn across the carriageway and caused rush-hour headaches for motorists as police closed a large stretch of the road for over two-and-a-half hours.

It is understood the silver Laguna flipped on to its roof after colliding with parked cars close to the road’s junction with Boyd Place.

Despite widespread damage to all four vehicles no one was injured in the incident, which took place around 5.20pm.

The male driver of the Laguna was assessed by an ambulance crew as police began their investigation into the collision.

The driver of a Peugeot 308, which was badly damaged in the incident, said: “I saw the car bouncing towards me upside down. I thought it was going to hit me head on.”

The man, who did not want to be named, said he was “okay” following the drama and did not require any medical treatment.

Speaking about his damaged vehicle, he added: “This is the last thing you need at this time of the year.”

A Monifieth Road householder said she had been in her kitchen when she heard “two loud bangs”.

She said: “By the time I got to thewindow the cars had all stopped and people were helping the Peugeot driver.

“I called 999 and said all threeemergency services as I thought the car on its roof might need the firies to get the driver out.”

The woman said the incident had left her “shocked”.

She said: “We usually park there, but thankfully our car was around thecorner. The cars were there for a while and the road didn’t reopen until about quarter to eight.”

Immediately following the incident, police closed Monifieth Road between its junctions with St Vincent Street andPanmure Street, with motorists being diverted along Brook Street.

Police were trying to trace the owner of one of the damaged parked cars.

A police spokeswoman confirmed a man had been charged with alleged road traffic offences in connection with the incident.
