Man stole bar of chocolate from Dundee shop while on bail for stealing

A thief stole a £1.25 bar of chocolate while on bail for other thefts, a court has heard.

David Mcintyre, 34, stole the item of confectionery after being earlier released on bail for two brazen thefts at the same store within days of each other.

On March 22 and March 24, Mcintyre admitted stealing 12 shirts from Wilkies womenswear, Cowgate.

He had his sentence deferred on that charge and was released on bail by Sheriff Munro, before going on to commit the chocolate theft from Boots on March 31.

His solicitor Kevin Hampton said: “He asked for a chance and you did give him one. He accepts that to steal a chocolate bar is so stupid.

“He actually went to the till and paid for other items. It is just a nuisance to people. He wants to work to change this.”

Sheriff Munro said she was giving Mcintyre “one last chance” and ordered him to be on supervision for one year.

Mcintyre, of Leith Walk, pled guilty to stealing the chocolate bar from Boots, Reform Street, while on bail.

He had previously pled guilty to stealing 12 shirts from Wilkies womenswear on March 22, and then again on March 24.

A review of the CPO was set for March 21.
