Old Dundee swimming pool photo makes big splash online
ByStefan Morkis
A photograph of Dundee’s former public swimming baths has caused a splash online.
Lost Dundee posted the image of the salt water pool on its Facebook page earlier this week and it has been now been viewed thousands of times.
Dundee had three salt water pools at Early Grey Docks until they were demolished in the mid 1970s.
The Dundee Corporation Public Baths, to give them their Sunday name, had three salt water pools – one for men, one for women and the other a mixed pool – and a load of other bathing areas such as Turkish baths.
The baths were also known as the “shorers”.
Several Lost Dundee users took to the site to share their memories of the pool, including getting a “shivery bite” – or chicken soup – to warm up after swimming.
We decided to dive into our own files to see what buried photographic treasure we could find.
