An elderly woman and children were treated by paramedics following a four-vehicle accident on Broughty Ferry’s Monifieth Road on Sunday afternoon.

Police traffic units and an ambulance rushed to the scene of the crash at the top of Yewbank Avenue around 4.30pm.

Officers quickly shut the road at both ends and traffic was diverted around by Reres Road and Abertay Street.

People in nearby Orchar Park reported hearing a loud bang. However, all of the injuries were thought to be minor.

Simon Lee, motorcycle police officer, said: “It was a four-vehicle, slight-injury road traffic accident. It appears an elderly female driver has minor injuries.

“One other car was carrying a three-week-old child and another child. They were looked over by paramedics.”

The elderly woman’s Daihatsu was travelling west along Monifieth Road when it was involved in a collision with a Chevrolet carrying the children.

Two parked cars were also damaged.

A number 73 bus travelling to Arbroath was also damaged as it attempted to reverse away from the scene.

The driver said: “I was asked to reverse up Reres Road. It was so steep it’s torn the back off the bus. The other bus had to reverse up the road and along the top.”

Bus passengers stood outside on the street until the damaged cars were uplifted and the road was cleared and reopened after 6pm.
