An NHS Tayside worker caught with child abuse material including an image of a newborn baby with its umbilical cord still attached has avoided a prison sentence.
Scott Wallace, who was sacked by the health board when the allegations came to light, was told by a sheriff today that he had amassed some of the most “horrifically disgusting” material he had ever encountered.
The 33-year-old downloaded a horde of photos and videos over a four-and-a-half-year period at his Dundee home and searched the internet using terms including “pre-teen hardcore”.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard previously that Wallace, formerly a technical officer who delivered drugs to wards which included children, told police who raided his home “curiosity got the better of me.”
Depute fiscal Vicki Bell said the child abuse material was found amongst almost a million images of adult pornography.
Wallace, of Symers Street, was sentenced to a three-year community payback order with a number of restrictive conditions, including no internet access without approval and no contact with children.
He was also placed on the sex offenders register for three years and given a four-month restriction of liberty order.
