Stephen Fry admits taking cocaine at Dundee University while rector

Comedian Stephen Fry has admitted taking the class A drug cocaine at Dundee University when rector after a booze-fuelled day where he fell asleep three times during a meeting of its court.

The comedian, actor and author served two terms as rector of the university from 1992 and served until 1998.

He remains a popular figure in Dundee thanks to his association with the university and has since acted as a judge for the annual Dundee Book Prize.

His latest autobiography More Fool Me details his battle with drugs and alcohol.

In it, he reveals taking cocaine at Buckingham Palace but also reveals how he used the Class A substance to cope with boozy visits to Dundee to perform his rectorial duties.

In one chapter he details a day-long visit to the university in November 1993.

Mr Fry described the then principal Michael Hamlin – who stood down a year later – as “looking ill”.
