The suspects wanted in connection with a raid on a Dundee jewellers have been spotted in England.

Two diamond rings worth thousands of pounds were stolen from the Stephen Henderson store in Union Street on February 6 by two men thought to be from the Liverpool area.

They grabbed the goods at about 3.55pm before making-off towards the city’s train station and past Discovery Point.

Now, Safer Gems UK, a network that tries to prevent crime against jewellery, arts and antiques trades has reported a suspected sighting of the men in Chester.

The pair were spotted in a store in the city at the weekend.

A spokesman for Safer Gems UK said: “The Dundee diamond ring snatchers are believed to have visited a Chester store on Sunday. One man was wearing the same distinctive hat.”

Police Scotland confirmed that officers in Tayside were aware of the Chester sighting, adding: “We are following up responses we have received in relation to the release of the CCTV footage.”

Shop owner Stephen Henderson said he had not been updated on the new sightings of the alleged suspects, but insisted it was good news they had been seen again.

He said: “I suppose all we can hope is that the more these thefts happen and identify the culprits, the more likely it is they will get caught.

“If we build up a good case against them, hopefully when they’re caught the punishment will be somewhat higher.”

Last week, footage of the suspects in the raid on Hendersons was released by Police Scotland.

The first suspect is white and around 5ft 11in, with an athletic build, large blue eyes and mousey-coloured facial hair.

He was wearing a distinctive navy blue hat lined with fur, a grey and black striped long-sleeved top, an Adidas hooded gilet with sky-blue, grey and white panels front and back, navy Armani jeans and sky-blue trainers.

The second man is also white, 5ft 8in and of slim build, with dark, short hair.

He was wearing a black hooded long-sleeved top, light grey Adidas jogging bottoms with dark grey stripes, light-coloured trainers and a dark-coloured baseball cap.

The two men were spotted in jewellery stores in Aberdeen earlier on the day of their theft in Dundee.
