Traders on right track as Broughty Ferry shopping festivities continue

Broughty Ferry Christmas celebrations will continue this month when its stages its second Festive Sunday.

Organised by Broughty Ferry Traders Association (BFTA), the event will feature the land train which will carry passengers from the Gray Street Grotto through Broughty Ferry.

Trips on the train will cost £2 per person, although children under two will travel free, and all proceeds will be donated to good causes.

The December 13 event comes hard on the heels of the Ferry’s Christmas lights switch-on which attracted its biggest ever crowd of more than 5,000 people and saw cheques for £300 presented to eight different charities.

BFTA chairman Steve James said: “We’re feeling the Christmas spirit even more than usual this year in the Ferry.

“After such a successful Lights Night, we’re already looking forward to our second ever Festive Sunday.

Santa will be receiving visitors in his grotto on Gray Street while the land train will be offering trips around the centre of town.

“It’s all good fun but we also want to encourage more shops to open that day and to encourage folk to shop local our Festive Sunday is definitely more fun than online shopping or trailing round a massive retail park.”

The BFTA has also produced a new shopping bag for life which, like the Broughty Ferry calendar, will be sold to raise money for charity.

The bag is illustrated with an image of Broughty Ferry designed by HB Rutherford Design and Print Consultants.

Mr James said: “We’re really excited by these initiatives which reflect the high quality people have come to expect from Ferry traders but which will also do a great job in promoting the town.

“We’ve been working on them for most of the year now so we’re delighted that they’ll be ready in plenty of time for Christmas.”

Deputy Lord Provost Christina Roberts was joined by the Broughty Ferry Minions to switch on the Christmas lights this year.

Brook Street was packed with spectators, who saw performances from the Eastern Primary School Choir, the Downfield Musical Society and a tribute to Disney’s Frozen.
