Unsigned bands hope for a breakthrough in Glasgow

Two Dundee bands have made it to the final of a national competition in which they will compete with 10 other unsigned Scottish acts at the O2 in Glasgow.

The Jagged Violet and 140 or Less have beaten off around 300 bands to get to the Soundwave Music Competition finals, which began in June and have taken the bands through several heats including a closed panel audition, a live audience audition, a public vote and a video submission.

The event aims to be one of the biggest unsigned music events in Scotland and will be covered by press and music industry guests.

Present at the event will also be record labels, booking agents, promoters, DJs, management companies, venue owners, magazine writers and journalists.

If the bands are successful they will receive a full day’s recording in one of the best recording studios in Scotland, radio slots, demo package, mastered CDs, magazine coverage, photo shoots and more.

Jagged Violet frontwoman Nicola Madill said: “We’re over the moon. 2013 has been an exciting year for us we released our third music video for our song The Wanderin’ Blues, have been writing new songs and recently recruited a new bass player and drummer.

“The 02 will be the largest capacity venue we’ve played to date and to get the chance to play in front of industry professionals will be something new and exciting for us.”

The band are looking to take as much Dundee support as possible and will be keeping fans up to date with ticket and transport details on Facebook.

The four members of 140 or Less are aged between 16 and 18.

Jordan, Liam, Molly and Nathan write their own songs and they’re hoping the competition will open doors for them.

The Soundwave Music Competition finals in January will be the perfect opportunity for new fans to see them live.
