A woman who had her eye gouged out in a Dundee murder bid in 2009 has died.

Natalie Farrell, 33, who had her right eye pulled out by an ex-partner in the horrific attack, died suddenly at the city’s Pitalpin Court.

Natalie’s ex-partner, Francis Murphy, was jailed for 12 years after brutally attacking her with a wire coat hanger, pulling out her eye, and throwing it from an eighth floor balcony in the city’s Dalfield Court.

After throwing the eye, he then attempted to throw Natalie over the balcony.

Natalie who had ended a 10-year relationship with Murphy, prior to the attack said she did not even realise she had lost her eye until a friend found it, and gave it to paramedics who were tending to her.

She told an attempted murder trial at the High Court in Edinburgh in 2009 that Murphy had snapped after learning she had moved in with a new partner.

She said: “He always told me if he couldn’t have me, nobody else could have me.

“He said, ‘I am taking your eye out.’”

Natalie has been described as a loving mother of Christopher, a devoted daughter of Pennie and Michael and a much-loved sister of Michael, James, and Toni.

A funeral service was held at Dundee Crematorium, with donations being made to Transform Community Development Dundee.

Police Scotland confirmed it had been called to the sudden death of a woman at an address in Pitalpin Court on December 3.
