Aberdour residents will work together to thwart development plans

Aberdour residents are fighting plans for a second major housing development in the village.

Campion Homes want to build 75 houses on countryside south of Nether Bouprie Farm.

It follows a proposal of application notice by Cala Homes for 100 homes on farmland at Aberdour’s eastern edge.

Resident Gertrud Mallon said: “Developers have described Aberdour as highly marketable and it would appear that the current applications are purely driven by profit.

“At the moment there are two proposed applications. No doubt others will follow. Aberdour residents are saying no to both.”

Wester Aberdour residents are in the process of forming a focus group to build a case for protecting the Nether Bouprie site and will work with those objecting to Cala’s plans.

Both have raised similar concerns relating to pressure on the primary school, sewage works and local medical practice.

“The Aberdour community relies significantly on its appeal to visitors and tourists,” said Ms Mallon.

“Given this background, both the community council and residents successfully argued to have all suggested sites around Aberdour removed from the proposed FIFEplan.”

Campion Homes said it lodged the plans in response to the Cala proposal.

A spokesman said: “It was not our intent to lodge a planning application prior to the outcome of the ongoing local development plan process and the timing of an application at Nether Bouprie Farm remains to be determined.

“We believe that this site represents the most appropriate and sustainable location in the village for the modest scale of development being proposed.

“Being to the west of Aberdour, this development is likely to result in less through traffic than a similar development to the east of the village and therefore, in road safety terms, is also the most appropriate location for new development.”
