Dunfermline Athletic’s East End Park home ground could well be renamed as the club strives to cope with the financial pressures of another year in League One.
The Pars failed to gain promotion back to Scottish football’s second tier this season and recently revealed that they expect to have made a £250,000 loss in the season just gone after making a “significant” investment in the playing staff last summer.
Now though, the club’s board have confirmed that they are offering sponsors the rights to rebrand their stadium in a bid to boost the coffers ahead of another crucial league campaign.
Similar moves at other football grounds have proved controversial elsewhere in the UK, and it remains to be seen how the Pars’ supporters take to the plans.
But the board at East End Park say they are keen to press ahead with the naming rights proposals as they aim to “maximise every available opportunity” to make extra cash.
“We are a club with a rich and proud history, but now with a forward-thinking approach,” a club statement read.
“East End Park is a stadium with an iconic place in Scottish football and DAFC is now offering the naming rights to a potential sponsor.
“The package on offer also includes prominent internal and external signage, supported by a generous hospitality package.
“East End Park is located on one of west Fife’s busiest arterial roads and would be renamed incorporating the sponsors’ name.”
The Pars are also seeking potential sponsors for the East Stand, which houses the away support at the ground, and for the first team and coaches’ training kit.
