A Glenrothes sports club has vowed to stay put despite having its premises vandalised twice in the space of three days.
Kenny Crichton, operations officer at Glenrothes Cricket Club, said the club will stand firm, despite repeated criminal acts against its property.
Mr Crichton arrived at the club’s ground at Gilvenbank Park on Friday morning to discover vandals had destroyed security equipment and damaged water pipes, two days after a storage container used by the club was broken into. Mr Crichton said: “We had 60 local kids here earlier this week, 20 or 30 who had come here for the first time but there seem to be people who want to inconvenience us.
“If they think we’re just going to up sticks then they are being naive.
“It is an issue but the biggest thing is the money it is costing. In this climate, it is not easy to come by.”
These two acts of vandalism are the latest to blight the club, having been targeted on numerous occasions in the past.
Only last month vandals tore up £5,500 worth of turf from the club’s playing surface just days before the start of the new season.
At its previous home at Riverside Park, the club had also been hit by vandals, who damaged specially-made protective covers for the playing surface.
Police Scotland say they are looking for three young men in connection with Thursday’s incident.
A spokesman said: “We are investigating after three male youths were found atop the roof of the Glenrothes Cricket Ground at around 9.10pm on Thursday June 19.
“Two rooftop cameras were stolen during the incident and an external water pipe was also damaged.”
