Mary Logie murder: Police search flat next door to where Leven pensioner was killed with rolling pin

Police have been searching the flat next door to Mary Logie's in Leven.
Police have been searching the flat next door to Mary Logie's in Leven.

The flat next door to where Leven grandmother Mary Logie was murdered has again been searched by police.

As forensic officers in white suits were seen entering and leaving the first floor property in Green Gates, it isunderstood their search also took in the back garden and a shed.

Defenceless Mrs Logie was found dead last Tuesday evening after what police described as a shocking attack.

The much loved grandmother was found on her living room floor after she had been beaten to death with a rolling pin.

As the investigation into the82-year-old’s murder continued, police threw up a wall of silence and refused to answer questions from The Courier on what they say are “operational matters.”

The lack of information had led to rumours circulating said neighbours.

One said there was speculation Mrs Logie had fallen victim to bogus callers purporting to be collecting for charity.

But it is understood this is not a line of inquiry being followed by police.

“If people don’t know what’s going on they will make it up,” said a neighbour.

“Nobody knows what’s happened but people are surmising.”

It is now more than a week since police descended on the quiet street in Leven.

A command unit is still parked at the scene and the locus remains cordoned off by police tape.

People living nearby told said they are desperate for police to catch Mrs Logie’s killer.

The neighbour continued:“Something doesn’t add up. You never see somewhere taped off for more than a week.

“There’s just no closure yet.

“It must be difficult for the family.”

The occupants of the flat upon which current inquiries are focused, Sandra, 40, and Alex Weir, 57, have not been seen by neighbours since last week.

A Ford Transit van removed from the scene is believed to belong to Mr Weir. Police would not confirm if this was linked to the inquiry.

Local councillor Tom Adams praised Police Scotland’s handling of the inquiry.

He said: “I’d like to congratulate the police on the work they are doing. I think they have done a fantastic job inreassuring the community.

“The quicker we get closure on this the better.”
