Players up in arms over Kirkcaldy sports pitch ‘farce’

Amateur footballers in Kirkcaldy have been left kicking their heels after some of the town’s most popular pitches were closed for maintenance.

No timescale has been given for the reinstatement of the community-use pitches at Kirkcaldy High School, almost a month after they were sealed off for health and safety reasons.

Players have vented their anger at the lack of information issued by Fife Council, after The Courier revealed last month sections of the synthetic surface were beginning to lift.

Despite the popularity of the sports venue, all regular bookings have been cancelled until further notice while contractors assess the site.

Danny Lambert, 32, who plays regularly at the school, said: “We don’t know anything from week to week. It’s a farce.”

Neil Finnie, senior compliance officer at Fife Council, said: “We don’t have a timescale for the work to be carried out yet but we are actively progressing the job.

“Once we have proposals from the contractor, we will have a better idea of how long the work is likely to take and when it can reopen.”
