A special bench was unveiled in Dunfermline in memory of an “outstanding and dedicated” Fife councillor.
Mike Rumney who lost his battle against cancer in July last year, served the Dunfermline area for nearly two decades, both as an elected member and as chairman of Dunfermline Area Committee.
As well as helping to secure £1 million of investment for the regeneration of the town centre, Mr Rumney played a key role in improving housing estates in his ward and tackled issues such as inequality and social deprivation.
Abbeyview Community Council came up with the idea of erecting a bench in remembrance of Mr Rumney, who had been one of their longest-serving members.
Spokeswoman Christine Coates said: “Mike was well-loved and highly respected in the local community and was of terrific help to many local people and local causes over the years, so it is lovely that he is being remembered in this way.”
Speaking at the unveiling of the bench, Dunfermline MSP Cara Hilton said: “Mike was one of the most dedicated local councillors I’ve ever met.
“He always put the people he represented first and continued to work tirelessly, despite being so ill.
“His heart was in Abbeyview and the memorial bench in the community in which he lived and represented is a fitting tribute to a man who was normally way too busy to sit down”.
Dunfermline South councillor Tony Martin added: “Mike was committed to the community of Abbeyview. He always carried out his responsibilities diligently and with great dignity.”
