Sabrina Roberts and Kevin Mercer are one of the couples left without a wedding venue and potentially out of pocket after the Strathearn's closure.

Hoteliers across Courier Country have offered to help couples whose weddings have been cancelled following the sudden closure of the Strathearn Hotel in Kirkcaldy.

The Victorian venue on Wishart Place was closed abruptly by leaseholders Stephen Stewart and Tina Syme on Sunday May 17, with shocked staff being given just a few hours’ notice.

Couples have told The Courier of their “heartbreak” at the sudden developments.

Customers who had booked weddings at the premises were later informed by the building’s owners, Bruce Taverns, that they would have to cancel their big day.

Susie Ritchie, sales manager of The Green Hotel in Kinross, took to social media to offer her condolences and assistance.

She wrote on Facebook: “This is a sad story, especially for the staff and guests who have been let down.

“If we can help anyone who were to hold their wedding or any other event, please get in touch with the sales team at The Green Hotel.

“Having been a wedding planner for a few years, weddings are stressful enough, the last thing any bride and groom need is this added stress.”

Tracy Dennis from The Abbey Hotel in Kirkcaldy wrote: “We had a bride in who only found out the day before the Strathearn had closed. Such a shame.

“Luckily we had that date free and she is able to go ahead with her reception.

“We have a few dates free for any occasion that may have been affected by this. Good luck to all.”

Catherine McColl from the Royal Hotel in Dysart said: “We have had a few of Strathearn guests and staff in looking for a venue or a job.

“We would love to help as many as possible. We wish everyone all the best.”
