3,000-year-old roundhouse remains found at T in the Park’s new Strathallan home

The remains of a Bronze Age roundhouse have been unearthed by teams working on T in the Park’s new festival site.

The 3,000-year-old dwelling was found by contractors preparing the Strathallan estate for this summer’s show.

Festival promoters DF Concerts assured that the find has been properly documented and will not pose a threat to the event or cause delays.

A Perth and Kinross Councilarchaeologist was drafted in to evaluate and register the discovery.

Workers downed tools when they noticed a section of earth which was a different colour to the surrounding patch.

Now that the roundhouse has been catalogued, work has continued and remains on target for the July 10opening.

Roundhouses made from stone and wood are not uncommon in Perthshire. As a planning condition, all sites ofhistoric interest must be logged by the local authority.

T in the Park won permission torelocate to Strathallan, near Auchterarder, in April.

Councillors unanimously backed the move, despite concerns about its impact on wildlife and roads.
