Sun worshippers have been criticised for blighting Perth beauty spots with litter.
The recent good weather has seen people flock to the North and South Inches but, as a result, there has been an increase in the amount of litter left lying in the grassy parks.
A local politician has called on people to be more responsible with their waste.
Councillor Alexander Stewart said: “We provide bins and hopefully they are used.
“People have to be responsible. We have to ensure that the visitor or the sun worshipper should take some responsibility to ensure that, if they do take things to have a little picnic, they think about leaving the Inches in the same state as they found it.
“It just shows the type of individual they are.
“Perth and Kinross is still perceived as a very pleasant place to live, work and play and if individuals choose to blot the landscape by leaving litter that’s not good for anybody. It creates a bad impression for those who pass by and those who are there.
“It’s now an offence to litter people could find themselves in a penalty situation. If it does become an issue, the environment department will look at it more seriously.”
He added that increased visitor numbers on the Inches may mean that the council needs to empty bins more frequently.
“At times the bins are not used much at all but when the weather is like it is at the moment there’s a much larger percentage of individuals choosing to go to that location and that will mean that they require to be emptied on a more regular basis.”
A council spokeswoman said: “The recent good weather has brought a welcome increase in the number of people spending time in our parks and open spaces.
“We would ask that all users act in a responsible manner and make an effort to pick up and properly dispose of their litter in the bins provided so as to not ruin the parks for others.”
