Buyers asked to tee up bids for Glenisla Golf Course

Offers are invited for the 18-hole Perthshire course which is a mecca for visiting golfers.
Offers are invited for the 18-hole Perthshire course which is a mecca for visiting golfers.

One of Perthshire’s most popular 18-hole golf courses has been placed on the market.

Offers are being invited for Glenisla Golf Course near Alyth which includes a major development opportunity to prospective purchasers outline planning permission exists on land adjacent to the course for 215 houses, nine business units, a hotel and nursing home.

The original application, which was later extended for a further three years, envisaged that a development of that scale would require a £40 million investment.

Course owner, Edinburgh businessman Nick Somerville said he felt the time was right for him to sell Glenisla.

“Unfortunately our first application for detailed planning permission for a first phase was rejected earlier this year,” he said.

“So after 11 years of efforts to create a development that would have secured Glenisla and helped the local economy, it is time to pass on a stunning award-winning course to someone else while the outline permission is still in place.”

He added that the fact that the rest of his family was living overseas was another reason for selling.

Founded in 1996 and operating mainly as a “pay and play” course but with a membership of 140 plus, the 6,402 metre course is one of three in the Alyth area, helping to make it a mecca for visiting golfers.

No asking price has been put on Glenisla with “offers invited” for the whole site, which includes a farmhouse, cottage and clubhouse.

The modern, circular two-storey clubhouse which overlooks the course has become a landmark.

The golf course is being marketed for by Graham and Sibbald in Perth.

According to another local firm, property consultants, CKD Galbraith, the Perthshire property market continues to show encouraging signs of activity,

The firm in Perth has handled more sales over the second quarter of the year compared to the same quarter last year and conducted more property viewings.

CKD Galbraith’s Perth statistics from the second quarter show a 44% increase in property sales this quarter compared to the second quarter of 2014

There has been a 21% rise in number of properties coming onto the market in comparison to the same period last year.

Some 29% of sales were completed by local buyers, 63% national and 8% international

Emma Chalmers, head of residential at CKD Galbraith’s Perth office, said: “The property market is continuing to show healthy results with our team handling an increase in viewings as buyer confidence has improved post-election and an increase in the number of properties being brought to the market.

“It is still of notable interest that the area attracts a high percentage of buyers from the national market many of whom are taking advantage of the beautiful Perthshire area.”
