A man who sent up to 50 “unwarranted” text messages per day to his former partner had his sentence deferred at court.

Perth Sheriff Court heard Lukasz Janichi, 26, of Tulloch Road, Perth, is now working beside his ex-girlfriend at a Perth launderette.

Depute fiscal Stuart Richardson said the pair had been in a relationship and intended to marry.

“This marriage didn’t happen, with the relationship coming to an end,” he said.

“Thereafter, the complainer didn’t hear or see from the accused for two years. Then in August this year, she got a job in a Perth launderette but discovered her former partner also worked there.”

Mr Richardson said the pair were initially “civil” to each other and text messages were sent back and forth. However, the level of these messages “escalated” this month.

“At its height, the accused sent 50 text messages per day to the woman,” Mr Richardson added. “This caused anxiety to her so police were contacted.”

Solicitor Steve Lafferty, defending, confirmed the messages were “unwarranted” but said the woman had responded to some of them.

“Both parties work in the launderette there is around 100 metres working distance between them,” he said.

Janichi admitted that between November 11 and 22 at Tulloch Road, Perth, he repeatedly and persistently sent unsolicited text messages to the woman. Sheriff Simon Collins told Janichi: “This woman does not want a relationship with you and doesn’t want you to text her.”

Sentence was deferred for Janichi to be of good behaviour.
