Model lovers from all across the UK gathered in Perth at the weekend to show big love for miniature creations.

The annual Scottish National Scale Model Show rolled into Perth’s Dewar’s Centre, with the event also doubling as the Scottish National Model Championships.

Affectionately known by many as the Scottish Nationals, the event is more than a competition and is the premier model show in Scotland.

For two days it plays host to traders, clubs and special interest groups from around the country, all involved with the hobby of scale models. This year there was also a special Scottish Aviation display.

The two main groups affiliated to the event are the Miniature Armoured Fighting Vehicle Association and the International Plastic Modellers Society.

This year the number of participants had shown such an increase, with 45 exhibitors and 25 traders attending, that the event was forced to expand into two halls at the Dewar’s Centre.

Among the Courier country clubs to attend were Dunfermline and District Scale Modellers, Dundee IPMS, East Neuk Modelling Club IPMS, Perth Independent Modellers Society and RAF Leuchars Wargames Club. Tyneside IPMS and Washington Model Club from Tyne and Wear also travelled up from England to take part.

Displays and special interest groups included the Aerobatic Display Teams, Between the Wars Aircraft, Fleets in Miniature, Scottish Museum of Plastic Kits and Swedish and Finnish Air Forces.

An established part of the Scottish National Scale Model Show is the Kit Swap, whose initial intention was to help fellow modellers recycle some of their once-loved kits into cash.

It now provides an invaluable location for potential purchasers to seek out inexpensive and rare items.
