Hundreds of fans of a cult novel and television series are to descend on Perthshire this year.

The Outlander enthusiasts will spend from May 15-17 celebrating the series at a gathering in Crieff.

It will feature a charity Highland games on May 17 and has been organised by fan club Outlandish UK.

Angela Sasso, of the group, said: “We have a full weekend planned around the theme of the show and have over 200 fans from 12 countries attending.

“Besides celebrating everything Outlander, the weekend has a serious side too this year we are raising funds for Caitriona Balfe’s (the show’s star) chosen charity, World Child Cancer, and are very pleased that we are doing this.

“Our fundraising for the weekend includes auctions, raffles and on Sunday we have a large event set up which is the Highland games, with over 100 people signed up to participate.”

The Outlander novel series follows Claire Randall, a 1940s combat nurse who accidentally travels back in time after falling through a stone circle in the Scottish Highlands.

There she meets and falls in love with Scottish warrior Jamie Fraser.

The novels have been made into a TV series by US company Starz and is set to be broadcast in the UK, via the Amazon Prime streaming service, later this year.

The series originally aired in the US in August and has been renewed for a second run.

Scenes were filmed at Doune Castle in Perthshire as well as in Culross and Falkland in Fife and West Lothian.
