A Perthshire man has admitted having around 2,000 indecent images of children aged between three and 10 years old.

Gordon Simpson, 26, Smith Lane, New Alyth, pleaded guilty to making and owning the images which ranged from levels one to five on the COPINE scale.

Investigators discovered a hard drive with 1,706 indecent images, ranging from levels one to five, and a laptop with 242 indecent images, all level one.

They also found another hard drive with 28 indecent images, 27 at level one and one at level four, and a mobile phone with seven indecent photographs at level one.

Depute fiscal Gavin Letford told Perth Sheriff Court that the images were of children aged between three to 10 years, and were predominantly of female children.

Mr Letford stated that in April 2012 a witness living with the accused opened a 10MB computer file that revealed indecent prepubescent images of children.

A second witness, who was tasked with carrying out repairs on the accused’s mobile phone, also randomly opened an image file where he discovered an indecent photo of a child.

Simpson admitted that between December 2011 and November 2012 at Polcalk Farm Cottage, Alyth; Toutie Street, Alyth; and Smith Lane, New Alyth, he took or permitted to be taken indecent photos of children.

He also pleaded guilty that between December 2011 and November 2012 he had in his possession indecent photos of children.

Sheriff Lindsay Foulis placed Simpson on the sex offenders register and deferred sentence for reports until next month.
