Mistaken reports of a plane crash in Perthshire sparked a major emergency response on Monday.
A member of the public is understood to have spotted a low-flying aircraft and, fearing the pilot was in trouble, alerted police.
Several appliances from the Scottish Fire andRescue Service, including specialist units from Perth, rushed to the scene at Caputh just after 4.30pm, along with crews from the Scottish AmbulanceService.
A helicopter was also deployed to search for wreckage over a large area of Perthshire, scouring both banks of the River Tay between Dunkeld and Perth.
This aerial search failed to find any sign of anaccident, however.
Officers from Police Scotland’s Tayside Division contacted all airfields in the area to establish if anyincidents had been reported and were advised that no pilots or planes wereunaccounted for.
It is believed that theconfusion may have arisen from someone burningrubbish at the same time as a light aircraft had been seen in the area.
Emergency services remained on the scene near Caputh Bridge for almost two hours until the incident was confirmed to be a well-intentioned false alarm.
