Policeman dies after collapse while cycling near Abernyte

A serving police officer has died after falling ill while out cycling in Perthshire on Saturday.
Steve Salmean, 50, was off duty at the time when he fell ill while out on his bike near Little Ballo, Abernyte, shortly after 10am.
An ambulance was called but sadly paramedics were unable to save PC Salmean and he was declared dead at the scene.
The father of two had 27 years police service, initially beginning his career in the Metropolitan Police before transferring to Tayside Police in 1993 where he has worked as a beat officer, scenes of crime officer and latterly served in the road policing unit.
His wife Allison is a serving sergeant with Police Scotland.
Assistant Chief Constable Bernard Higgins paid tribute to PC Salmean and said: “Steve was a highly respected officer, extremely well liked by his colleagues and always thoroughly professional in his work.
“His death is a great tragedy and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts are with Allison and his family.”
