Three hurt as car crashes into tree on A90 near Perth

Three people were injured on Sunday in a single-car crash on the A90 near Perth.

One lane of the road was closed after the crash which happened around 2.20pm on the southbound carriageway, betweenWalnut Grove and the Friarton Bridge, causing long tailbacks.

The Ford Mondeo had left the road and struck a tree.

There were long delays to traffic heading back west after the Dundee versus Celtic football match at Dens Park.

One woman had to be cut free by fire crews before three people were taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital.

An ambulance spokesman said: “We had two ambulances on scene, as well as an ambulance officer and a trauma team from Ninewells.”

On Monday, a spokeswoman from Police Scotland confirmed an eight-year-old boy was in a stable condition at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee following the accident.

He sustained spinal and pelvis injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 35-year-old woman was also taken to Ninewells, where she is being treated for injuries to her pelvis and limbs.

A man was taken to hospital with chest, shoulder and knee injuries but was released on Sunday evening.

One motorist caught up in the traffic chaos said the jam stretched almost five miles back from the crash site.

He said: “I’m driving from St Madoes to Perth and it’s all the way back to the St Madoes junction. It’s a silver Ford Mondeo that appears to have spun off the road and hit a tree.”
