A daredevil golfer has taken the plunge to help her brother realise his dream of competing in the Special Olympics.
Carly Booth, from Comrie in Perthshire, agreed to throw herself out of a plane thousands of feet above Dubai to give her older brother Paul, and the rest of Team GB, a boost ahead of next year’s World Games in America.
Paul has been selected to represent Britain in the Los Angeles contest. The 24-year-old was chosen after winning the Scottish Championships for Powerlifters with a Learning Disability earlier this year.
Yesterday, professional golfer Carly, who sits at 454 in the world rankings, was back home after taking part in the skydive over the United Arab Emirates city to raise cash for the Special Olympics team.
Inspired by her brother’s achievements, she made more than £1,500 through donations and sponsorship.
Tweeting just moments after the tandem drop, she wrote: “Ahhh what an amazing experience! I loveddddd it!”
She told The Courier: “It was an amazing experience and I’m so happy I was able to raise more than my target, that’s what it’s all about.
“I’m so proud of my brother Paul and I think athletes competing in the Special Olympics deserve to get the best out of it, they work just as hard in their sport and it should be noticed.”
She added: “I think Special Olympics is such an amazing foundation and I’m so happy I was able to help in a small way.”
