To boldly go where good luck has gone before – Alex Salmond’s Courier column

As tough a grilling as Alex Salmond reckons Nicola Sturgeon gets from her opponents

Is Nicola Sturgeon a lucky general? Has fortune favoured the First Minister during her time in office?

Her predecessor, Alex Salmond, certainly thinks so. But just hold on, this is not another of those now oh so popular SNP split stories.

Far from it, in fact. For Salmond reckons Sturgeon’s talents are great – it’s just that her opponents have handed her some open goals to help her showcase them.

In this week’s Courier column, the ex-SNP leader is scathing about the Tories behaviour on the complex fiscal framework renegotiations and Labour’s plans to increase the Scottish rate of income tax.

But it’s not all heavy politics – there’s a bit of space/time continuum after Glasgow University boffins played a key role in finding evidence of Einstein’s theory of the “warping effect” of gravitational waves.

Not varied enough for you? Well then why not read about his defence of the Scottish Makar?

Pick up a copy of Monday’s Courier, or try our digital edition, to read Alex Salmond’s exclusive column in full.
