New SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon’s appearance at Dundee’s Caird Hall has sold out within 24 hours.
In a move reminiscent of a chart-topping group or televison comedian, Scotland’s next First Minister’s talk shifted every ticket on Friday for the November 7 date at the 1,950 capacity venue.
Ms Sturgeon, who will be endorsed as Alex Salmond’s successor at the SNP’s conference in Perth next month, has sold out all six dates on her Scottish speaking tour, which starts in Edinburgh on October 29.
A Dundee SNP spokesman said: “The level of public interest – selling out in 24 hours – shows the extraordinary energy and determination that remains in the aftermath of the referendum to ensure that we see delivery from Westminster of the substantial new powers promised to Scotland.
“Nicola will use the tour to connect with the public and tap into their mood and will set out her determination to be First Minister for all of Scotland with a policy platform based on the Scottish Government doing everything it can to deliver a fairer and more prosperous Scotland.”
Around 20,000 people will attend the tour, which includes the almost-13,000 capacity Hydro in Glasgow.
Organisers said Ms Sturgeon’s tour hoped to “rally and engage the tens of thousands of new members who have joined the Scottish National Party since the referendum.”
Announcing the dates on Wednesday, Ms Sturgeon said: “Our new members bring a new energy and dynamism – and not just to the SNP. They are also a potent force who can help Scotland progress as a country.
“I am looking forward to meeting as many of our new recruits as possible and sharing with them my vision for the future. The tour of Scotland that I will undertake in the next few weeks also sets the template for the kind of First Minister I want to be – open, accessible and determined to work with others across the political divide to find common cause and build a better country.
“The hope, excitement and sense of opportunity of the referendum campaign did not end on polling day. It is alive, well and growing. This is a great time for Scotland and I look forward to leading my party and our country to even better times ahead.”
