Labour have beaten the Tories into second place as the election race heats up.
The party won 3-2 against the Conservatives in a dramatic penalty shoot out in Edinburgh to help motor neurone disease campaigner Gordon Aikman in his fight against the condition.
Both teams got off to a nervous start with both Labour’s Ken Macintosh and Conservative staffer Graeme Rose missing from the spot.
Assistant General Secretary of Community the Trade Union, former Fife Labour MSP John Park, pulled off two solid saves to give the Labour team the upper hand.
Then Scottish Labour leader Jim Murphy scored to seal its victory.
Mr Murphy, Jenny Marra, Gavin Brown and Murdo Fraser, were among the politicians taking part in the Show MND the Red Card event.
“Today’s temporary halt in hostilities has resulted in a great game and good fun.
“Let’s hope we can make it a double Labour victory on May 7.
“However, today isn’t really about Labour versus Conservative, it’s about the UK versus MND,” Mr Murphy said.
Mr Brown added: “The scoreboard says we lost, but the clear message from today is that we are all committed to one day winning the battle against MND.”
Refereeing, Gordon, who was diagnosed less than a year ago, added: “Whatever the score on the pitch today, with MND there are no winners.”
