Happy Rufferendum Day, says Guide Dog pup Yancy

Yancy the Guide Dog puppy gives her views on the Independence Referendum…

An exciting day. One of the most important in my 15-week life. REFERENDUM DAY!

We were up early…around 4am. I didn’t want my master to sleep in and miss his vote so I yowled through the night after he kindly (ha) shut me in the kitchen, thereby ensuring he didn’t sleep at all.

He didn’t seem all that grateful, which was disappointing after all the effort I had put in. In fact, when I smashed my How many times can I get him to say ‘Sit’ before I actually do record 43 he seemed a teensy bit cross. Very odd.

Anyway, I haven’t been on this planet very long but even I know today, September 18, is an important day. Not as important as, say, eating chicken mess or rabbit droppings every time you step outside the front door or ignoring commands, but important nevertheless.

That would explain why so many voters had turned out to see me when my master took me to the polling station in the morning. The significance of the day seemed to overshadow all else for some to the extent that, if you didn’t know better, you might say that one or two voters might have thought the referendum more important than me! Bizarre.

Where do I stand on this referendum business, you ask? I was swayed by a recent academic treatise which promised that an independent Scotland will be a land of milk, honey and dog biscuits. Sadly, we canines are Scotland’s disenfranchised voice no vote for me.

Anyway, my master did vote he’s such a dimbo he probably spoiled the paper with two crosses or something. He really isn’t very bright.

I am now back home and plan a long snooze to recover from my disturbed night.

Happy Rufferendum Day to you all.
