Four hurt in five-car pile-up

Four people were taken to Ninewells Hospital with minor injuries after a five-vehicle accident yesterday morning blocked the eastbound carriageway of the A90 Dundee-Perth road for an hour.

The pile-up happened near Longforgan around 11.40.

An arcticulated lorry and four cars were involved in the incident, which left vehicles sprawled across both lanes, blocking the eastbound lane while they were removed.

Two ambulances and a fire crew raced to the scene but firefighters were not required to use cutting equipment and stood down.

Two elderly people were taken to hospital suffering from shock and slight injuries, while two others, were also taken to Ninewells with minor injuries.

Diversions were put in place through Invergowrie while vehicles were removed by recovery crews.

The crash caused large tailbacks which began to subside once police reopened one lane of the carriageway around an hour later.

The road was fully reopened by 2 pm.
