Family speak out after husband’s guilty plea

THE FAMILY of murdered Aberdeen woman Jill Hamilton spoke out last night after her husband pleaded guilty to her murder.

Jill, a 25-year-old care worker, died earlier this year and yesterday William Hamilton appeared at the High Court in Aberdeen.

The court heard Hamilton (33) stabbed his wife in the chest and arm after accusing her of having an affair.

The attack on the mother of one took place at their flat in North Sea Court in February.

Lord Morrision deferred sentence until October 21 for background reports.

Last night, in a statement issued by Grampian police, Jill’s family said, “We would like to thank all family, friends, colleagues and neighbours who have helped and supported us through this difficult and distressing period.

“We have been devastated by the loss of Jill who can never be replaced in our lives.

“We will always have our memories of Jill, but her little boy Liam has to face the future without the mum who loved him so much.

“We would now ask the media to leave us to grieve in peace for Jill and to respect the privacy of our family.”

Detective Inspector Gordon Gibson, who led the inquiry, said, “This was a tragic case where a young, 25-year-old woman, in the prime of her life, had been the victim of an unprovoked attack with a knife whilst in her own home.

“Not only has Jill’s immediate family lost a sister and daughter, but her seven-year-old son Liam has been deprived of the love and guidance of his mother and father as he matures and develops in future life.

“The thoughts of myself and my team are very much with Jill’s family today and I only hope, that by this long-awaited outcome, they can now begin to move on.”
