A GROUP of enterprising youngsters at St John’s Primary School, Rosyth, have raised more than £300 for charity by staging their own version of the TV talent contest Stars In Their Eyes. The 30 or so primary seven pupils came up with the idea as part of a project looking at the world of business enterprise. They formed their own company, calling themselves the St John’s Stars, to produce the show and opened a bank account. The project was launched in October and just two months later the children found themselves in profit having sold 130 tickets for last night’s performance. Their teacher, Mrs Elaine Mairs, said yesterday that the class had really thrown themselves into their role as entrepreneurs. “The show is part of the primary seven business enterprise project and the idea was that they should set up and run a company and hopefully make a profit,” she added. “My class decided they wanted to produce a Stars In Their Eyes competition. “They have done everything from the market research to holding a raffle to raise money to hire things like the staging, curtains and lights. “They did all the advertising and marketing and sold 130 tickets for the show. They have already raised £282 and are planning to hold another raffle tonight, so they should make well over £300.” Having auditioned for artistes within the school itself, the production team put together a varied programme. Among the acts were Connie Francis, Shirley Bassey, the Black Eyed Peas and Nickleback. The profits will be shared between cancer research and school funds. |
