East Fife boss Jim Moffat was delighted after watching his side pull themselves back into the promotion hunt with a 2-0 win at Berwick. The victory, Moffat believes, proves just how tight the second division is. “This league, perhaps more so than any other, is really competitive and this result shows any side can beat any other,” he said. “Berwick had a fantastic win up at Forfar last weekend, yet we managed to go down there and be the better team. “It goes to show that winning in this league has nothing to do with your form, but how much you are willing to put in on the day. “Our players left the park on Saturday with a fantastic feeling.” And that was thanks to goals from Craig McMillan and Greig McDonald. McMillan capitalised on a mistake from Berwick keeper Neil Inglis to net early on, while McDonald pounced late on after Brian Blair hit a post. In between, Michael Hall cleared a Gary McCutcheon effort from his goal-line. The Fifers remain in sixth position in the league, but are only three points off second place. “We’ve told the players to concentrate on how close we are to the top and not how far we are away from the bottom of the table,” Moffat said. “Our philosophy is to be as positive as we possibly can. “We play Queen of the South in the Scottish Cup next and this win sets us up nicely to take on a club that is undoubtedly the best part-time outfit in the country.” As expected, the clash between Forfar and Arbroath fell victim to the weather due to the frozen Station Park surface. A morning’s pitch inspection proved a formality and no date has yet been set for the rescheduled game. Other results: Airdrie v Hamilton (postponed); Dumbarton 1, Morton 0; Stenhousemuir v Alloa (postponed). |
