FOOTBALL LEGENDS Paul Gascoigne, Kenny Dalglish, Ally McCoist and possibly even Gary Lineker are set to take part in a showdown between the Auld Enemies later this year.

Details of the Scotland v England game, which will take place in Dunfermline, were revealed at a Press conference at East End Park yesterday by organiser Rory Nicoll.

Some of the biggest names in football over the last 30 years have signed up for the all-star charity event and Scotland “manager” Jim Leishman predicted it would be a passionate affair.

“I think it will be a very interesting game and it will be fascinating to see how fit the players have kept themselves,” he said. “There’ll be a lot of fun and enjoyment in the game.

“To see guys like Chris Waddell, Paul Gascoigne and Peter Beardsley at East End Park is terrific.”

The visitors, managed by former Rangers and England striker Mark Hateley, have also confirmed that Steve Hodge and John Barnes will play.

Mr Nicoll added that Gary Lineker, now a BBC sports presenter, was thinking about making an appearance.

As for the Scots, they should have Dalglish, Ian Durrant, Andy Goram, Gordon Strachan, Colin Hendry and McCoist in their line-up.

Mr Leishman said, “It’s going to be an interesting team talk. I’ll probably not get a word in, because of McCoist.

“As for Kenny Dalglish, he’s playing too much golf these days. If he is fit I’ll consider selecting him.”

Mr Nicoll said the English camp were taking things particularly seriously and were planning to train together for a week prior to the match.

Mr Leishman quipped, “We might have something up our sleeve too ... maybe a session or two on the Silver Sands at Aberdour. I’m sure there will be a wee bit of needle and both teams will want to win.

“They are all ex-professionals and will all still have pride and passion when they pull on the jersey. That’s what it is all about.”

The match takes place on April 15 at East End Park. Kick-off is at 8 pm.

Proceeds will go to a Fife charity and Dunfermline’s youth development set-up.
