By Mike Donachie A serious road accident on the A9 south of Blair Atholl last night left six people injured. All the resources of the emergency services, included an RAF helicopter, were called upon to deal with the aftermath of the head-on collision on the Perth to Inverness road at 8.35 pm. The ambulance service said “several” calls were received from concerned motorists who passed the crash scene between Blair Atholl and Killiekrankie. Two of the casualties were giving cause for concern and four were described as walking wounded. First on the scene was a team of paramedics from Pitlochry. An ambulance crew from Kingussie attended, and later, in response to a request for more help, another ambulance from Perth was sent out. A female and male were reported as trapped in one of the vehicles, so the fire brigade also joined the effort, working to free the occupants. Police officers also took part, setting up traffic restrictions as they closed the road for a time. The trauma team, specialists from Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, was also mobilised, and the ambulance service contacted a local doctor to add his expertise. Because of the relative remoteness of the scene and the likelihood that the two most serious casualties would need to be transferred to Ninewells, RAF Kinloss was asked to send an air ambulance. |
