Man held in probe over city death By Jack McKeown A 34-YEAR-OLD man was arrested last night in connection with the death of Dundee man George McGowan, who was found dead in the early hours of yesterday morning. The body of Mr McGowan (47) was discovered just after 7 am yesterday in a close at a block of flats on Ballantrae Terrace, a short walk from his home in Ballindean Terrace in the Douglas area of the city. He had sustained numerous injuries. Tayside Police immediately launched a full-scale inquiry into the incident. A mobile incident caravan was sent to the scene and forensic scientists wearing protective white overalls began a fingertip search of the entrance area at 20 Ballantrae Terrace. Although Mr McGowan’s body was found around 7 am, it is understood his death occurred several hours earlier. The body remained in the close for several hours while police and the forensic team carried out investigations. Police were also reviewing CCTV footage of the area. The 34-year-old man was arrested early yesterday evening and spent last night in police custody. Mr McGowan, who was unemployed, lived alone in a flat in Ballindean Terrace. Both his parents are deceased, and he is survived by his brother, who last night said he did not wish to comment. A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal, and the man is expected to appear at the sheriff court today. |
