THE Caird Hall in Dundee was full of cheer yesterday when it hosted the 5th Scotcheer Scottish Nationals and World Cheerleaders Association European Cheer and Dance Cham-pionships. The hall was buzzing with excitement and enthusiasm as over 1000 cheerleaders from all over Scotland competed and spectated. Girls as young as six impressed the audience as they competed on stage, making pyramids, waving banners and shaking pom poms. Three teams from Dundee—the Dundee Dee-lites, Scottish Bluebells and the Dundee Devils—took part in the competition, which is also being held today and tomorrow. Over the course of the three days, the Caird Hall will have welcomed over 3500 performers. WCA vice-president Stephanie French said, “It’s so good to see so many enthusiastic performers here. There is a real buzz in the hall and its great to see all the teams supporting and cheering for one another. “In America the teams are so much more competitive with each other so it’s good to see so much encouragement over here. “The industry has really grown in the past four years and I hope it keeps growing.” Winners from yesterday’s competition were as follows: In the Pee Wee Cheer, the Goldstar Twinkles and Comets from Glasgow came first, the Scottish Bluebells Babes came fourth and Dynamo Prep fifth. In the junior cheer, Goldstar Supernovas came first, with Dee-lites Ace Allstars coming a very close second and Scottish Bluebells Varsity coming fifth. In the senior cheer, Goldstar Galaxy came first with Scottish Bluebells Elite runners-up and Dee-lites Elite fourth. In the dance competition, Gold Star Twinkles and Comets won the Pee Wee category with Crystals and Diamonds from Clydebank winning the junior category. The seniors was won by Goldstar Galaxy. |
